Elephant Kraal, Kodanad, one of the largest elephant training centers of South India. In 1977 the elephant capturing came to an end, but the elephant kraal still remains. Facilities for elephant ride are provided here. There is also a mini zoo at Kodanad.
Malayattoor, an International Christian Pilgrim Center, is a place of prayer made rich by the footsteps of St. Thomas, the Apostle of Christ. On the slopes of the picturesque Western Ghats, 8 kms from Kalady is the Malayattoor Church. The church atop the hill, about 2 kms from Malayattoor, was established in AD 900.and it is accessible by road up to the foot hills of Kurishumudy and thereafter can be reached only by foot. There is a small lake called Manappattuchira, Situated beside the Periyar river, Malayatoor is also a place of scenic beauty.
Iringole Kaavu - a sacred grove, is an evergreen forest in town in which a canopy of a century old trees prevent the sun’s rays from touching the ground.
Sri Adi Sankara Keerthi Stoopam: Kalady is the birth place of Sri Adi Sankaracharya the great Indian philosopher who lived in the 8th century. Kalady is on the banks of the river Periyar and there are two shrines in memory of Sri Adi Sankaracharya. One dedicated to him as Dakshinamoorthy and the other to the Goddess Sharada. Adi Sankara's shrines in Kalady are open to all pilgrims irrespective of religion or caste. Cherai Beach on Vypeen island is a beautiful and calm beach, located 25 kms from Kochi, in a typical village ambience, This lovely unspoilt stretch of sand is an ideal picnic spot for swimming in the Arabian Sea. |

Paaniyeli Poaru, the nature lovers’ den, offers a fantastic outing place for its sheer simplicity. It has river, rocks, a panoramic view of the Malayattoor hills etc.
Mulamkuzhy Mahaganithottam is a top picnic spot near Malayattoor where a lot of tourists, film and music album units pour in.
Methala Kallil Guha Bhagawathi Temple and the ‘hanging rock’ is a place to visit, just 14 kms from Riverfront Resort Kodanad. There is a ninth century Jain temple, which is cut from a huge rock and a climb of 120 steps. It’s near Iringole Kaavu.
Kaprikkad, An eco-tourism project by the Government of Kerala integrating with the Kerala Forest Department, offers a secluded spot to explore nature.
Bhoothathankettu Dam: Situated 63 Kms away from Kochi. Boating facilities are provided in the reservoir. The Forest Department provides elephant rides through the forest to old Bhoothankettu. From the legends it is believed that Demons built the old dam, in a single night, using huge boulders. It is just below the new dam.
Thattekkad – Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, which is about half an hour from the Resort, has a thousand varieties of Birds.
Athirappilly Waterfalls is one of the most crowd attracting waterfalls of the State. It has a width of 400 meters and falls 80 meters down on the rock. |
